![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The cafe/tea room is quite run down though & could do with being made a little more welcoming & modernised.Location of The Tarn in The Royal Borough of Greenwich The positives however is that the play park is huge & looks fun, the otters are great, especially the giant ones and the otter talk was very informative. When we got to the tame deers it turned out they were in a different enclosure due to the "storm" (bare in mind we visited 2 weeks after it) and we could hardly see them let alone touch or be near them, very disappointed we weren't told about this before we paid or at all infact. We by accident went round the park the wrong way, again because we had no knowledge of where to go and the maps are confusing. Firstly would be a good idea to have a toilet inside the park not just outside, secondly when we arrived we paid (you can get 30% off with ikea southampton card FYI) we were giving absolutely no information about anything, where to go, feeding times.just a rather grumpy lady. Although I am starting this off with a negative there are positives too that I will mention. We went here with quite high expectations, probably not a good idea. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for us and good value for money as an alternative to a more traditional zoo! Thanks! You can easily go round a couple of times and enjoy the talks/feeding sessions too. I am not sure how people can moan about this attraction. In parts of the park, there are hand sanitiser dispensers for after animal encounters. The toilet was located at the entrance/cafe. My son Is only two, but had a lot of fun here! Everything was made of huge logs and was in fantastic condition! You could bring a picnic and sit here while the kids run wild! Finally, there are no toilets in the park, which although wasn't a problem for us, could be a problem with young children. There is also a huge play area by the deer for the over six and adults. The play areas are fantastic! There is a toddler play area by the entrance with plenty of fun and a huge sand out. Also they had a small table with colouring books, books and small toys to occupy the kids. Seating inside was a little squashed but there was plenty of outside seating if it's not too cold. Hot drinks are provided by Costa and pretty good value at £2! The cafe itself looked dated but the staff were friendly and menu looked great value! Kids meals for £3.95 seemed reasonable. Each animal has a detailed information board too (other than the wallabies which we couldn't find any information about, although we may have just missed it) We stopped in the cafe for a hot drink at the end. Around the park there are maps dotted around. It's very natural and they have plenty of roaming space. Also, just to mention that the animals have great enclosures at this park. We arrived in time for the otter talk which was great! We didn't see any other talks, but happened to be at the deer section when they were fed! It was fantastic, the deer came leaping out of the forest for there food and you could stroke them! A potential missed opportunity from the park here though, not selling the deer feed to you so you can feed them yourselves (like at Longleat!) You were not given a map at the entrance but the lady at the gate was fantastic as she asked if we had been before and provided us with information about the park. We didn't see hedgehogs, badgers, frogs or wild boar. The butterfly house was open but had no butterflies as it is winter. We also saw bison, lots of owls, red fox, harvest mice, ferrets, Scottish wildcats, polecat, water vole, lynx, a white wallaby (which we assumed was an albino wallaby), wallaby and pine marten. We saw most animals, including the wolves which many reviewers said they didn't see! We loved the many different breeds of otters, and the deer, which we were able to stroke. Parking is free and right near the entrance to the park. My son was free as he is under two, and we had a 30% discount on showing my ikea family card so paid just under £15 entrance. We spent around 3 hours in the park and had a lovely time. I visited the park today with my husband and two year old son. ![]()
